Luca Pantina
bio
Luca Pantina was born in Sicily. He grew up in the natural context of the Natural Regional Park of the Madonie, Castellana Sicula (Palermo). There he started to paint very young and there he introduced his first exhibition in 1995.
Nature is the first source of his inspiration. He, very young, explores the multiplicity of colours, plants and animals of the Madonie territory, Geopark recognized by UNESCO.
Student at the Accademia di Belle Arti of Palermo in 2003 he obtained an Erasmus scholarship to complete his study at Faculty of Belle Arti of Seville University. From this experience, he has decided to live between Italy and Spain participating to many artistic projects.
Fascinated from different materials and artistic techniques his work is based on themes of spiritual, mystic, metaphoric and symbolic contents. Pantina shows interest in different cultural and spiritual factors as a consequence of social changes.
He ended his doctorate of research in Belle Arti with international mention at the Facultad de Bellas Artes at Seville University. There he discussed the thesis “Art as a form of meditation”. In the same faculty, he has been honorary assistant for the academic year 2014-2015.
STATEMENT
In the recent years my artistic research aimed at the philosophy of the Far East, with a particular attention to the Zen Buddhism and to the meditation.
In 2017, I obtained a doctorate with international mention in the Faculty of Belle Arti at Seville University with the thesis “Art as a form of meditation”. In this paper, I deepened the study of some important authors and I have narrated my artistic path, which consists of the possibility that Art can be a means of elevation through the contact with the matter, leading the artist and his works to the Original Silence.
The creative process is for me a form of meditation, even if it is in the final works that we have the benefits of the millenary oriental discipline.
My spiritual commitment coincides with my ethical one, because my aesthetic interest is connected with actual problems such as wars,
clandestine migrations, social differences which force people to live in misery, poorly distributed natural resources that lead us to reflect upon the world we desire.
In particular I wish to stimulate the viewer to observe reality with more attention, to give him/her the possibility to reflect upon our time. I try to do this with a participate and generative art.
Meditation has also changed my aesthetic interest opening my mind to new creative horizons. Beside many materials I am particularly attracted by wood. For years I have been utilizing eclectically all kinds of materials and different techniques. My personal production is constituted by drawings, paintings, prints, three-dimensional works, sculptures and sound installations.
