My Totem - Installation 2008
The starting point of the project is the concept of the totem, seen as a symbolic representation of diversity in modern society, where each up and coming generation is renewed forming urban clan and tribes.
These totemic representations are a reflection of the evolution of states of awareness within the new groups. My Totem wants to invite the spectators to live a private experience in search of their own totems among the electronic-spiritual media and the new technological totemism.
The twelve sculpture of the intervention refer to new technologies, placing them in relation to spiritual themes characteristic of the New Era. Now, more than ever there is talk of “cyclical transformations” of present and particularly of future states at any level.
My Totem is a journey where you can interact with the installation and also act as protagonist. Same mirrors make your perception of time and pace change. After contemplating the small totems, you look in the direction of the mirrored pedestal under them. There you will see a part of your body reflected, up to a metre high. And this will make you aware of something missing, of the need to look for the complete reflection.
This can only be achieved when looking at yourself and observing the large 2.20 metre-high totem-mirror placed among the sculptures. In this way you can establish and understand the metaphor and find yourself right inside, despite being surrounded by technological matter which does not always escape subtlety.
